ABOUT THE SITE

A collection of materials for Young Adults.

Hello and welcome to my carefully curated collection of young adult literature! This site is a mini library of materials targeted for young adults. This blog was created for my Summer 2023 “Materials for Young Adults” class at San José State University. This blog attempts to evaluate and anticipate the newest trends for teens, and seeks to provide new and exciting recommendations for teens and fans of YA media searching for something new. You will find 30 diverse materials consisting of books, TV shows, movies, music, and more!

Now more than ever, teens are devouring a diverse range of literature and media. The trends interesting teens are ever changing but I sought to present titles that will remain fresh for some time. Social Justice, LGBTQ+ rights and relationships, True Crime inspired mysteries, and escapist fantasy were current trends I noted in my research, and I tried to reflect that in my blog offerings. This project was rewarding for me as I hope to be a youth librarian in the future, and I feel that my reader’s advisory skills have definitely been sharpened by this assignment.

A Note on Content Warnings

I would like to be sensitive to readers potentially triggered or harmed by sensitive content in the titles I recommend. Unfortunately, there is simply too much content for me to be sure I note every potentially triggering topic, so I did not attempt to do so. Additionally, I believe only the individual can determine what is truly potentially harmful for them, so I seek to provide some research resources instead.

If you are sensitive to certain topics and may be looking for content or trigger warnings, please search for the titles on StoryGraph for books, Does the Dog Die? for games and films, or IMDB Parent’s Guide page for films and TV shows for potential triggering content. Unfortunately these sites may not be comprehensive, and I recommend conducting as much research as possible for you to feel comfortable consuming the title. Thank you!
